Introduction to my Web Quest

Not long ago, robots only existed in science fiction, but as new advances are made in the field of technology, those artificial creatures are becoming more and more of a reality. The concept of the creation of machines that could operate autonomously has been around for centuries, but research into the functionality and potential uses of robots did not grow significantly until the twentieth century. Fully autonomous robots didn't appear until the second half of the twentieth century, and even then they were only used for performing those repetitive and/or dangerous tasks which humans prefer not to do or are unable to do.

Throughout history, robots have often been made to mimic human behavior, and they often manage tasks in a similar fashion. Today, the field of robotics is rapidly growing, as we continue to research, design, and construct new robots that serve various useful purposes, whether domestic, commercial, or military. There are concerns about the increasing use of robots and their role in everyday life. Robots are blamed for causing a rise in unemployment rates as they replace humans in some functions. The use of robots in military combat raises controversy as to whether it is ethical or not.  The possibility of robots becoming self-aware and breaking free of human control has been addressed in fiction, but it remains to be seen whether or not it is a realistic concern.
